About the course

Course content

Spesialization and factor prices, international and domestic sectors, international trade, factor movements, movement of capital, clusters, etc. Students are required to deliver a written thesis analyzing a sector of choice.

Learning outcome

Skills:

  • Enable students to understand what affects and determines the structure of a country’s economy and what determines factor prices and international trade in a small open economy
  • Provide students with a knowledge of models and theory of clusters
  • Provide students with a knowledge of models and theory which explains why countries find it profitable to engage in international trade
  • Give students an understanding of how the discovery of huge endowments of non-renewable natural resources might impact the structure of a country’s economy
  • Enable students to be able to carry out their own economic analyses of specific sectors of a country’s economy

Competence:

  • Able to fit the theory into a broader economic and social context.
  • Able to accumulate further knowledge of the realm of the subject.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, exercises, workshops, guest lecturers from industry and academia, and student written thesis analyzing industry of choice. All material will be available on Blackboard. Blackboard will be used extensively, sharing information with students. Details concerning compulsory group written thesis and student presentation/oral exam will be communicated upon course start. Students must present and defend written thesis, and will be subject to oral exam covering theory from text book and lectures.
