The course includes:
- Fire, fire load and thermal action
- Heat transfer
- The characteristics of materials at high temperatures
- Structural fire response
- Functional requirements and performance based analysis
- Analysis of requirements, safety level and rehabilitation
- Methods for verification of fire resistance
- Calculation methods
- Fire dimensioning
- Fire safety engineering
- Risk analysis of fire in buildings
Learning outcome
Knowledge:
The candidates should have an understanding and in-depth knowledge of principles, methods and models for documentation of fulfilling of requirements regarding fire safety in buildings through fire analyses and fire safety engineering.
Skills:
Have a good understanding of all factors of potetial fires, and be able to develop strategies for fire safety as well as perform qualitative and quantitative risk analyses of fire in buildings.
General competence:
Insight into laws, regulations, standards and guidelines. Material properties. Fire resistance of constructions. Experimental and theoretical verification methods.
Learning methods and activities
An individual study report (e.g. literature survey, experimental work, project work or similar) is mandatory. The lectures and exercises are in English when students who do not speak Norwegian take the course.
