About the course

Course content

The subject will in principle only be given for the minimum of 3 participants. The subject is partly based on new research within Geographic Information Science, in particular visualization and storage of geographic information. Some of the content may be adapted to each PhD students fields of interests. A major exercise/project will be possible to adapt to the students interests within the themes of the subject.

Learning outcome

Knowledge: The candidate should have knowledge of: - New research within Visualization in Geographic Information Science - New research within Storage of Geographic information

Skills: The candidate is able to: - Read and evaluate research papers within Geographic Information Science - Carry out a small research project based on the themes in the subject and own fields of interests - Defend the research project and evaluate the quality of the content - Present the research project as a scientific publication

General competence: The candidate can: - Read and evaluate scientific papers

Learning methods and activities

Study group and self-tution. The lectures and exercises are in English when students who do not speak Norwegian take the course. The major exercise/project counts 2/3 of the final result. To pass the course a score of at least 70 percent is required.

Specific conditions

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Engineering (PHIV)

Required previous knowledge

The subject is based on TBA4250 Geographic Information Handling 2, TBA4560/TBA4561 Geomatics Specialization Project and TBA4925 Geomatics, Master Thesis or similar. The course will be run if at least 3 students with relevant background wish to attend. If you wish to attend, please contact the course coordinator. Students not admitted to the PhD programme in engineering may be approved by the course coordinator.
