About the course

Course content

The course comprises technical and economical topics related to rock drilling. Treated topics are:
- Rock breaking mechanisms, principles and methods for rock drilling
- Review of test methods for drillability, direct and indirect methods
- The drilling process
- Boreability in TBM tunnelling
- Capacity and time consumption models
- Cost models

Learning outcome

The goal of the course is to give the students further knowledge and understanding of different factors which influence the efficiency, quality and economy of rock drilling.

Learning methods and activities

Study group.
An individual study report (e.g. literature survey, experimental study or similar) is mandatory.
Exercises. The lectures and exercises are in English when students who do not speak Norwegian take the course.
