Learning outcome
The goal of the course is to give the students knowledge about basic road design theory and how it is applied in Norway. In addition, the students in the course then develop further knowledge and understanding of different factors which influence the design and operations of roads.
Learning methods and activities
The aim is to lecture the course, but with few students the course can be taken as a guided self study combined with colloqiums. The compulsory exercises include oral and writing presentation of papers in seminars for both students and teachers. To pass the course a score of at least 70 percent is required.

Further on evaluation
Portfolio assessment is the basis for the grade in the course. The portfolio includes a term paper (50%) and an oral exam, which includes a presentation of the term paper. The oral exam counts 50%. The results for the parts are given in %-scores, while the entire portfolio is assigned Passed/Not passed. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from written to oral. For a re-take of an examination, all assessments during the course must be re-taken.
