About the course

Course content

Students should be able to conduct valuations of companies and assets. They will receive an overview of the practical application of valuation models that are central to finance, economics, and accounting.

Learning outcome

After completing the course, the student should have achieved the following learning outcomes:

Knowledge

The student should have:

  • Knowledge of theories related to the relationship between risk and expected return
  • Knowledge of applied valuation methods

Skills

The student should be able to:

  • Determine the required rate of return for calculating enterprise value
  • Apply valuation models to calculate enterprise value
  • Explain methods and uncertainties in accounting estimates and enterprise valuation

General competence

The student should be able to:

  • Communicate key subject matter using appropriate forms of expression
  • View the subject in a broader context from a societal perspective

Learning methods and activities

Approximately four to five two-hour lectures on valuation.

Group assignment (with two or three students) involving a practical valuation. Individual submission may be allowed upon application.

Further on evaluation

The total grade in the course consists of an individual written school exam and a group assignment. The group assignment must be submitted in groups of 2-3 people. A Re-sit exam will be held in August for the "written school exam".
