About the course
Course content
The course will be given for the first time in autumn 2002. The course covers pollution of air, water and soil and gives an introduction to effects of toxins on plants, animals and humans, including chemical composition, occurrence, dispersion and effects of different chemical compounds (heavy metals, pesticides, carcinogens and other industrial products) which have disturbing effects in biological systems. A short description of the effects of radioactivity will also be given. The laboratory course includes an introduction to methods for detection of environmentally disturbing chemical compounds and their effects. The student must perform an independent project associated with the laboratory course.
Learning outcome
On completion of the course the students should be familiar with pollution of air, water and soil, and also with effects of toxins on plants, animals and humans.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures: 50 hours.
Project: mandatory.
Laboratory course: 30 hours, mandatory.
