Learning outcome

The course deals with the basic aspects of carrying out a construction project, such as the process itself, various roles involved and actors who fulfill these roles as well as their tasks and responsibilities. Furthermore, the course includes the public approval processes required for the implementation of a construction case. Another aspect of the course is the focus on both written and oral communication. The course will also provide insight into the use of digital tools for carrying out construction processes.

After completing the course, the student should be able to:

Knowledge:

  • account for key roles and actors involved in the implementation of construction projects and their tasks and responsibilities explain the basis of the Norwegian legal system for the implementation of construction projects
  • explain the legal aspects of approval of measures and liability and central laws, regulations and a selection of legal standards that form the basis for contract work
  • seek out and evaluate research results within the subject area
  • basic knowledge in budgeting and life cycle cost calculations
  • describe opportunities and limitations for the use of digital planning tools

Skills:

  • apply the legislation to analyze disputes and acquire and manage permits and liability rights in construction matters, for on the the way to further develop own competence
  • find, assess, use and refer to information and subject matter and present this so that it sheds light on a problem
  • could calculate the annual costs for a building

General competence:

  • convey construction knowledge to different target groups both in writing and orally

Learning methods and activities

Continuous strings 

Digital string: Digitalization of buidings and spreadsheets for simulating 

Ethics string: Ethical issues around employment contracts and the use of hired personnel.

Emphasis is placed on a student-active teaching methodology where the teaching hours are largely used for dialogue and student work. Lectures are made available as videos, and it is assumed that the students have studied these before the relevant teaching hours. Students who follow a flexible program are encouraged to study in voluntary colloquium groups. Synchronous tutoring times are set up.

Further on evaluation

The assessment consists of two partial exams, one of which is an individual school exam with a duration of 2 hours. The second part consists of an individual academic text.. Both parts must be passed to get a final grade in the course.
