About the course

Course content

The course gives a specialised introduction to a chosen topic from ethnochorelogical and anthropological dance research. Theory and methods are focussed. The course will base itself upon discussing materials and projects from different cultures around the world. The students write an essay on a given topic.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:An examinee with completed qualification in DANS3011
• has knowledge about main directions of ethnological and an anthropological dance research
• has advanced knowledge about theory and methodologies used in ethnologicial and anthropological dance research
• has knowledge about fieldwork technique and analysis of dance
Skills:An examinee with completed qualification in DANS3011
• has skills for analysing and critically assessing main directions in ethnological and an anthropological dance research
• has skills for cooperation on dance research across borders

General competence:An examinee with completed qualification in DANS3011
• can work independently with an academic project
• can combine theory and methodology with practical work

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, seminars, practical excersises. The course is given as an intensive program. In order to take the exam the
students are required to attend a minimum of 75%
of the lectures.

  • Obligatory attendance 75 %

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Dance Knowledge, Practice and Heritage (MACHOREO)
Dance Studies (MDANS)

Required previous knowledge

Requires admission to Nordic Master in Dance Studies (No-Ma-DS) or Erasmus Mundus Master in Dance Knowledge, Practice and Heritage (Choreomundus).
