Course content

The course is practically aimed at alternative learning arenas, citical invesigation of digital sources, and field trips and field work within the social sciences. The focus is on developing tools for exploratory teaching, critical awareness and in-depth learning about the past and the present. Active citizenship through student-activating and explorative approaches in a multidisciplinary perspective is emphasized. The focus will be on learning strategies within and outside the classroom, awareness of digital competencies and skills related to the study of social science phenomena. The course aims to develop competence on how societal knowledge is developed, and awareness of how different representations influences the view of society.

Learning outcome

KNOWLEDGE

The candidate

  • has in-depth knowledge of subject didactic issues related to local and alternative learning spaces for the social sciences
  • has research-based and theoretical knowledge of the use of field trips and fieldwork as alternative learning arenas
  • has in-depth knowledge and experience of using digital media in global networks.
  • has advanced knowledge of critical investigation of digital sources within social sciences.
  • has advanced knowledge of in-depth learning, different explorative methods and studies in and outside the classroom

SKILLS

The candidate

  • can assess professionally the didactical potential of digital media in learning and teaching
  • can apply, discuss and evaluate explorative teaching, especially related to field trips, fieldwork and alternative learning spaces in social studies
  • are able to discuss and apply subject didactic perspectives and critical thinking to various sources in social studies
  • are able to discuss and reflect on various aspects of digital learning tools - can use and apply relevant learning arenas in multidisciplinary approaches

GENERAL COMPETENCE

The candidate

  • are able to evaluate and analyze empirical knowledge and practically apply theoretical insight
  • are able to apply critical thinking and critical investigation of digital sources within and outside the classroom

Learning methods and activities

Field trips to local museums, institutions or other learning arenas in Trondheim and surrounding areas, digital platforms, group work, lectures.

Obligatory work

Oral presentation, work with digital tools and participation in a project assignment. Attendance is required to carry out compulsory assignments
