About the course
Course content
This course will explore the history and politics of one or more English-speaking countries during a specific historical period. The course will make use of appropriate research methods either in the discipline of History, the social sciences, or cultural studies. The course will also provide students with an opportunity to study a range of non-fiction sources or texts.
A more detailed description of the academic content will be available in the reading list at the beginning of the semester.
Learning outcome
Candidates who have passed this course
- have knowledge of the history and politics of one or more English-speaking countries.
- can reflect on current political, social and cultural issues relating to one or more English-speaking countries from a historical perspective.
- have knowledge of the latest academic research on the history and politics of one or more English-speaking countries.
- have knowledge of the academic approaches and methods used either in the discipline of History, the social sciences, or cultural studies.
- can produce an independent piece of written work on one or more aspects of an English-speaking country.
- are able to demonstrate a good command of written English.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures and/or seminar sessions and/or supervision. Students are required to use the course learning platform regularly.
Approved obligatory assignment is valid for 2 semesters (the semester in which the approval is given, plus the following semester)
Compulsory assignments
- 1 skriftlig innlevering (max. 2000 ord)

The exam must be answered in English. Information about which dictionaries students are allowed to consult during the exam will be available in the reading list at the beginning of the semester.
Recommended previous knowledge
ENG1404, ENG1402 or ENG1401.
