Course content
EUR1001 is an introductory course at the European Studies and Foreign Languages BA programme. It is an interdisciplinary course focussing on the EU and Europe. It gives an account of and analyses EU institutions and institutional structure, policy areas in the EU and the functioning of the EU as a political arena and a political system
Learning outcome
Knowledge:
The candidate will attain
basic knowledge of the EU as a political system.
basic knowledge of the EUs institutional structure and functioning.
basic understanding of policy areas in the EU.
basic knowledge of the relationship between the EU and its member states.
Skills:
The candidate will develop skills to
be able to analyse the development in the EU and the process of European integration.
be able to analyse analytically the implications of the EU as a supranational political system.
be able to participate in professional debates about the evolution of the EU, its functioning and its policy areas.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures and group sessions. Logbook.
The introductory course in academic writing at the beginning of the semester (Humstart) requires 80 % attendance to class instruction.
