Course - Sustainable energy- and environmental- asessment - FENA2311
Sustainable energy- and environmental- asessment
New from the academic year 2021/2022
About
About the course
Course content
The course provides a basic introduction to sustainable development, and how we can analyze and optimize a system or a solution based on sustainability goals. Life cycle assessment (LCA) is a widely used methodology to assess the environmental impact of various goods and services, including energy systems. In this course, the focus is on applications of LCA on different systems, with emphasis on how system boundaries for analyzes greatly affect the results. Furthermore, examples will be carried out related to maritime energy systems.
Learning outcome
Knowledge: The course will give the student: - knowledge of and insight into the UN's goals for sustainability and the principles of sustainable development - insight into how to implement robust environmental evaluations. - knowledge of tools and methods for decision support in development projects (LCA analyzes etc) Skills: After completing the course the student should be able to: - analyze systems and solutions - LC analyzes, (LCA) for the assessment of various systems, technologies and products in relation to their environmental properties and environmental footprints. - apply the LCA methodology to various energy systems and technologies. - conduct simple system analyzes based on sustainability principles - use different tools for sustainability analysis, LCA and multivariate decision support General competence: After completing the course the student must: - have a good understanding of how to evaluate the environmental properties of different energy and production systems. - be able to communicate on academic topics with others who have a general background in the field and with less expert environments. - Know about trends in technology for components and system solutions.
