Course content

The Department of Economics approves the topic and assigns a supervisor to the Master thesis in financial economics.

Learning outcome

The purpose of the Master thesis is to provide the student with the skills necessary to conduct independent analyses of economic research problems. The thesis must rely on an economic reasoning. A purely descriptive thesis will not be approved. A detailed list which presents directions for the Master thesis can be obtained at www.ntnu.no/econ.

Learning methods and activities

This course is restricted to students accepted into the Master Program in Financial Economics.

Individual supervision is an important part of the Master thesis project, and is mandatory for all students working on their Master thesis. The estimated workload of the Master thesis is one semester.

FIN3900 is normally the last course to complete for students pursuing a Master's degree in Financial Economics. The students hand in 5 copies of their Thesis, a Registration form for the exam and a Publication agreement within the deadlines 1st of March/June/September/December. The Thesis should also be submitted as a pdf file. The forms, and more information, are available at www.ntnu.no/econ.

Form of assessment: Master’s thesis and oral presentation. The oral exam may be used to adjust the Master thesis’ grade.

Required previous knowledge

The course is open only to students who are admitted to the Master's programme in financial economics.
