Course content
FRA1100 is a general introductory course in French focusing on intensive proficiency training in written and oral French. The course includes an introduction to recent/contemporary French literature and culture, and provides a foundation for further studies in French.
Learning outcome
Candidates who have passed this course:
- are familiar with a selection of both literary works and factual prose
- are familiar with basic approaches to textual analysis
- are familiar with the social and political situation in France
- are able to write in French about French literature and culture
- know how to make correct use of and cite sources
Learning methods and activities
Lectures and seminars with discussions. Study groups. Written proficiency training. The course is taught in French. 80% attendance is required in lectures and seminars.

Further on evaluation
The exam must be answered in French. Information about which dictionaries, if any, you are allowed to consult during the written exam will be available in the reading list at the beginning of the semester.
Recommended previous knowledge
We recommend proficiency in French equivalent to French level II from Upper Secondary School/Norwegian "videregående skole". Students who do not have this proficiency level are recommended to take FRA0501 and FRA0502 before taking this course.
