Course content
The course provides an introduction to post-war French history and society. Through a historical approach, students gain thematic insight into significant issues from 1945 to today. The selected themes are relevant to the political and social conditions in today's France.

Knowledge
Candidates who have passed this course:
- have knowledge of the most important events and figures in post-war France
- have knowledge of some key topics in French politics and society from 1945 until today
- have an understanding of how different perspectives impact on representations of French post-war history and society
Skills
Candidates who have passed this course:
- can account for key features and connections in French post-war history
- can analyze current social conditions in a historical perspective and draw their own conclusions
- can demonstrate the knowledge and capacity to conduct academic discussions in minor written work and in oral presentations using clear and correct French
General competence
Candidates who have passed this course:
- can express themselves both in writing and orally in French on current societal issues
- can plan and carry out tasks independently and in groups
- can present and discuss issues, views and solutions, both in writing and orally
- can communicate academic insights through various forms of expression
Learning methods and activities
Lectures and group sessions with discussion. The course is taught in French.
75% mandatory attendance (in lectures and seminars)
The absence limit is intended to cover normal sick leave and similar situations. Therefore, you will not be granted valid absence from teaching based on a medical certificate, even if the absence is due to circumstances beyond your control.
In special cases, agreements for exemption can be made with the course coordinator, preferably at the start of the semester.
Approved obligatory assignments are valid for 2 semesters (the semester in which the approval is given, plus the following semester). All obligatory assignments must be completed in the same semester.
Compulsory assignments
- 75% attendance in all teaching activities
- 1 oral presentation (10 min)
- 1 written assignment
Further on evaluation
The exam must be answered in French. Information about which dictionaries, if any, you are allowed to consult during the exam will be available in the reading list at the beginning of the semester.

Completed basis courses in French from autumn semester.
