Course content

Through in-depth studies and independent research work the students will gain practice in methodical and systematic work on a problem within natural science didactics. The assignment will be based on a scientific investigation starting with a problem relevant to teaching and learning the natural sciences in school or communicating the natural sciences in other contexts. Tutorials will ensure technical, methodical and text-critical feedback for the student during the course of the assignment and are a compulsory part of the study. Tutorials also involve the required checks on data collection and processing and general research techniques. Special guidelines have been prepared for the master thesis. Tutorials are arranged between the student and the tutor and are regulated through a tutorial agreement.The work on the thesis will equate to 1.5 semester’s full time work commitment. The master thesis has requirements governing which students may undertake it, which means that the subject is reserved for students who are selected for the master in subject didactics, natural science didactics branch of studies.

Learning outcome

The student - can work methodically and systematically on a problem in natural science didactics - can plan and carry out an independent research project in line with scientific principles and research ethics - can discuss and communicate knowledge of the student’s own field of research with both specialists and others

Natural Science with Teacher Education, years 8 - 13 (MLREAL)

Required previous knowledge

It is normally required that all courses in the first year of the programme should be approved before beginning the master thesis.
