Course content

Cell damage/cell death. Inflammation. Circulatory disturbances. Electrolyte- and acid/base disturbances. Hormonal disturbances. Growth disturbances and tumors.

Learning outcome

Upon passed exam the student should
Have knowledge about and be able to explain biological and cellular processes upon cell damage/cell death, inflammation, circulatory disturbances, electrolyte- and acid/base disturbances, hormonal disturbances, growth disturbances and tumors.
Have knowledge about and be able to explain how normal and disturbed prosesses in the body can be monitored in body fluids, cells and tissue.

Learning methods and activities

Total expected work load: 230 hours. Tutoring: 5 hours (Problem based learning (PBL) in groups of about 8 students). Lectures 38 hours. Team based Learning (TBL): 15 hours. Self study: 172 hours.

The candidate must have approved compulsory assignments in order to sit for the exam. Compulsory assignments consists of; Participation in weekly group counseling, participation in weekly seminars / group exercises (TBL).

Specific conditions

Exam registration requires that class registration is approved in the same semester. Compulsory activities from previous semester may be approved by the department.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Medical laboratory technology (MTBIO)

Required previous knowledge

Admission to the course requires admission to the study program Bachelor i Bioingeniørfag. Other students may be admitted depending on course capacity.
