Course content
Blood Types; classification and nomenclature; antigen, antibody and heritage phenotyping Irregular blood group antibodies; screening, identification and titration Pretransfusjonstester The clinical relevance of various immunhematologiske investigations Procedures for blood donation Blood Component Manufacturing Haemotherapy and transfusion complications Quality assurance in blood bank lab
Learning outcome
Students can: Explain the analysis principle for spesific blood typing procedures with associated quality assurance. Performe "Pre-transfusjon" investigations. Be able to explain sources of error and make clear record of work performed Can perform screening, identification and quantification(titrate) of specific bloodtype-antibodies with associated control. Know about serological investigations needed during pregnancy for prophylactic anti-D treatment - Account for blood collection procedures and blood component manufacturing and storage - Know the purpose of transfusion therapy and various forms of transfusion - Know the hemolytic disease in fetuses and newborns and auto hemolytic disease in adults Know about Hemotherapy and transfusion complications. Explain the importance of quality assurance in blood bank lab
Learning methods and activities
Students total effort is estimated to 200 hours, Lectures (22 hours),40 hours mandatory internal and external study practice. Teamwork (2-3 students in group). Oral and written presentation of the subject
