About the course
Course content
Cell damage/cell death. Inflammation. Circulatory disturbances. Electrolyte- and acid/base disturbances. Hormonal disturbances. Growth disturbances and tumors. Individual task in addition.
Learning outcome
The student:
- has knowledge about and is able to explain biological and cellular processes upon cell damage/cell death, inflammation, circulatory disturbances, electrolyte- and acid/base disturbances, hormonal disturbances, growth disturbances and tumors.
- has knowledge about and is able to explain how normal and disturbed processes in the body can be monitored in body fluids, cells and tissue.
Learning methods and activities
Total expected work load: 300 hours. Problem based learning (PBL) in groups of about 8 students: 5 hours, Lectures: 36 hours, Team based Learning (TBL): 15 hours, Self study (including individual task): 240 hours.

Further on evaluation
The candidate must have approved compulsory assignments in order to sit for the exam. Compulsory assignments consists of: Participation in weekly group work (PBL), participation in weekly seminars / group exercises (TBL), and individual written task. For applications for credits, approval and integration of courses from previous years or other institutions' equivalent education, each application will be evaluated individually. A reduction of credits (studiepoengsreduksjon) might apply if the candidate has passed exams in overlapping courses. New/re-sit exam: November/December. The exam may be held as an oral exam in exceptional cases.

Individual agreement with partner university. This course cannot be taken unless the student is approved by the department as an exchange student.
Required previous knowledge
This course is only for students accepted as exchange students in the 3rd year at the Department of biomedical laboratory science at NTNU, Trondheim. This course cannot be taken unless the student is approved by the department as an exchange student. This will be done on an individual basis based on the agreement with the partner university.
