About the course

Course content

This is an introductory course in sport psychology, focusing on overarching topics such as participation and drop-out from organized sport, exercise environments, group processes, performance development, and psychological well-being. Through practical participation in various sport activities students will experience how psychological mechanisms can be utilized in training and competition settings. Topics include motivation, group dynamics, enjoyment, burnout, communication, and goal-setting. Questionnaires and observation will be used to investigate psychological mechanisms.

Learning outcome

Knowledge: the student shall:

  • be introduced to, and have knowledge about how to use psychological theory in a sport setting.
  • gain knowledge about important psychological mechanisms through participation in practical activities.

Skills - the student shall demonstrate the ability to:

  • demonstrate competence in terms of applying psychological theories on both individual- and group perspectives.
  • respond to a given topic in an analytical and discursive manner through the use of scientific texts.

Learning methods and activities

Throughout the semester there are lectures, practical activities and group sessions. Certain weeks are reserved for writing.

Admission to the bachelor program in Social Sciences and Sports Sciences and bachelorprogram in Human Movement Science
