Course content

This course will give an introduction into the technology and materials, which uses in high voltage installations. - Dimensioning criteria for high voltage insulation - Electric field strength in various configurations - Material technology - Insulation technology - Overvoltages caused by lightning - Overvoltages due to circuit breaker operations - Economy in the grid - Switches / circuit breakers - HVDC - Installation technology - Environmental impact - Testing - Regulations and Standards

Learning outcome

The candidate knows about - properties of conducting materials - properties of insulating materials - environmental impact of materials in high voltage installations - regulations for high voltage installations The candidate can - perform calculation related to economics in electric power systems - calculate the magnetic field close to electric power lines The candidate understands - the functional principle av HVDC-systems The candidate will be able to participate in constructive technical discussions within his subject area.

Supporting material allowed on exams: - Defined simple calculator - One sheet of paper (A4, both sides can be used) with handwritten notes/drawings Re-sit examination will be carried out as oral examination.
