Course content
The syllabus in the subject consists of 3 modules:
Module 1: Automation systems
Production and distribution of electricity, operation and control of three-phase induction motors, common components in such systems, power and control circuit wiring diagrams, relay and contactor controls, documentation.
Module 2: Programmable Logic Controllers (PLS)
Structure and operation, programming and simulation in various programming languages, combinatorial and sequential programming, documentation.
Module 3: Pneumatic and hydraulic systems
Structure and operation, common components in such systems, differences between pneumatic and hydraulic systems, documentation.
Learning outcome
Knowledge: The candidate can explain
- Structure and operation of automation systems.
- Structure and operation of the PLC.
- Structure and operation of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
Skills: The candidate can
- Understand, draw and document circuit diagrams for automation, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Programming PLCs in various programming languages, simulating, debugging and document the program.
Digitization: The course helps the candidate learn about digital management and communication, digital user interface, and the use of modern development tools.

Lectures, team-work, home-exercises, computer-exercises, lab-exercises.

Further on evaluation
Minimum work requirements to take the written exam: 6 of 8 computer-exercises, 3 of 4 home-exercises, 3 of 3 lab-exercises must be approved.
Allowed aids at the exam: No printed or hand-written support material is allowed. A specific basic calculator is allowed. Postponed exam are arranged in august. Postponed exam can be changed to oral exam.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Automation and Intelligent Systems - Engineering (BIAIS)
Recommended previous knowledge
General programming skills, basic digital and analog electronics.
Required previous knowledge
Concerning applications for credentials, approval and incorporating of courses from previous semesters or other institutions' corresponding education programs, each application will be processed individually and the applicant should expect credit reductions for overlapping courses.
