Learning outcome

Knowledge

  • General knowledge of the link between concrete composition, execution and durability related properties
  • General knowledge on the link between porosity, environmental conditions, moisture fixation and transport of matter
  • Basic understanding of concrete bridges durability: knowledge on the typical deterioration mechanisms and controlling parameters
  • Basic understanding of typical methods for inspection and investigation of concrete
  • Basic understanding of typical maintenance and repair methods
  • Knowledge on relevant regulation, standards and methods
  • Knowledge on the structural impact of deterioration

  • Ability to propose strategies for maintenance and repair of concrete bridges
  • Ability to plan inspection and assessment of concrete bridges
  • Ability to undertake inspection and assessment of concrete bridge
  • Ability to propose methods for maintenance and repair of concrete bridges

General competences: Good understanding of the theoretical basis for operation and maintenance of concrete bridges, and good understanding and knowledge on current procedures for inspection, condition assessment, maintenance and repair of concrete bridges.

Learning methods and activities

Teaching is subject to a sufficient number of applicants for the course. The course is conducted as three modules of three days. Examination will tale place the last day of the third module. The course is part of NTNU's further education programme, and has a course fee. See NTNU Videre's website.
