Course content

The academic content of the course will vary from semester to semester. The course is an in-depth course in a limited topic in recent art, from Romanticism to the present day. The course can shed light on a specific era or an artistic movement in visual art and/or architecture (eg the landscape art of Romanticism, the social images of Realism or the architecture of Postmodernism) or be thematically limited (eg political caricatures, gender perspectives in art). Through examination of different types of work, students will get an introduction to current theory and method.

Learning outcome

The candidate's general competence after completing the course:

  • specialized knowledge of a limited subject from 1800 until today
  • be able to reflect on the aesthetic and social significance of art
  • understand and reflect on art in a historical and cultural perspective
  • independently and critically communicate the academic content of the course both in writing and in oral form
