Course content
Theoretical introduction to stuttering and cluttering. Identification of the various difficulties and assessment of possible treatment measures are emphasized. The subject includes reflection on one's own practice. The ability to use theory in a holistic and person-centred way in speech therapy work is emphasized.
Learning outcome
Knowledge
After completing the course, the student will have basic knowledge of theoretical and practical aspects related to
- stuttering and cluttering: terminology and theory
- causes and risk factors of stuttering and cluttering
- symptoms and developmental features of stuttering and cluttering
- methods and tools for assessing and identifying stuttering and cluttering, factors that influence stuttering and cluttering, and consequences on communication and life situation (incl. psychological reactions) associated with the stuttering and cluttering
- knowledge of different treatment methods for stuttering and cluttering and assessment of individually adapted measures
- knowledge of the advisory role, the importance of relationship, holistic thinking and taking care of individual wishes and needs
Skills
After completing the course, the student can
- identify stuttering and cluttering
- implement relevant specific and comprehensive measures for children, young people and adults with stuttering and cluttering
- reflect critically on one’s own practice and relate it to relevant theory on stuttering and cluttering
- evaluate the effect of measures for treating stuttering and cluttering
- be able to reflect on one's own role as a speech therapist and adviser in meetings with people with stuttering and cluttering and their peers/family/network
General competence
After completing the course, the student must
- have acquired an understanding of characteristic features of stuttering and cluttering
- know and use various mapping tools for identifying stuttering and cluttering and other conditions that affect speech, communication and life quality
- be able to assess and implement measures adapted to the person and his/her overall life situation.
- holistic thinking/understanding of one's own role in meeting people with stuttering and cluttering and their situation and life environment
- be able to communicate with the individual, their family as well as with colleagues about relevant problems, approaches and objectives
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, plenary discussions, group work and individual work. The course has mandatory requirements. It is assumed that all students regularly use the current learning platform.

Further on evaluation
To be allowed to sit for the exam, you must have attended 80% of the teaching.
Only your own and your child's illness or the like are valid reasons for absence.
Work requirements: 2 compulsory work requirements must be approved before sitting the exam.
Validity of compulsory activity: 4 semesters.
Specific conditions:
Compulsory activities from previous semester may be approved by the department.
