Course content

Through theory and practical teaching, the course focuses on work with health and life skills in school as an interdisciplinary topic. The course deals with knowledge of theoretical perspectives on health and life skills at both individual, group and system level as well as knowledge of relevant control documents. Students will gain knowledge of health-promoting perspectives on health and life skills that emphasize the promotion of skills, competence and resources rather than focus on risk factors and difficulties. Emphasis will be placed on how approaches to practical and aesthetic learning processes can provide students with resources and competence that promote a positive health development in line with LK20. Through varied teaching methods, students will gain knowledge about how qualities, skills and values ​​in practical and aesthetic subjects (music, arts and craft, science and physical education) promote resources and factors at various levels such as the learning environment, cooperation, well-being, mastery and positive self-image.

Upon completion of the course, students must have the following learning outcomes:

Knowledge

The student

• has knowledge of theoretical perspectives on health and life skills at both individual and societal level

• have knowledge of health promotion related to students' mental and physical health in school in general

• has knowledge of the content of the school's control documents related to the interdisciplinary topic health and life skills

• is familiar with research and development work within the subject area

Skills

The student

• can plan, implement and reflect on teaching and practice that contributes to a health-promoting learning environment for the individual student, groups and steps

• can plan, implement and evaluate teaching programs based on knowledge in the subject area as well as reflect on and adjust their own professional practice

• can find, evaluate and refer to information and subject matter and present it to illuminates an issue

General competence

The student

• can apply knowledge about health promotion and relevant results from research and development work in their professional practice and make professionally justified choices

• can in his professional practice convey key subject matter about what affects the students' physical and mental health both written and oral, and through other relevant forms of expression

• knows new thinking and innovation processes around health and life skills in subjects and across subjects

Learning methods and activities

Practical teaching indoors and outdoors, lectures, project-based work, workshop, seminars, supervision and self-study. Student-active learning methods are emphasized.

Further on evaluation

Work requirements I:

Workshop / seminar (compulsory participation). Exploratory, interdisciplinary workshop in aesthetic and practical approaches to learning. A reflection text (in group) must be submitted where the students justify practice based on theory / empirical evidence on public health and life skills.

Work requirements II:

Group work related to planning, implementation and justification of a practical teaching plan on health and life skills. Parts of the teaching plan will be tested in practice with fellow students. In addition, the group must explain orally the choices they have made and justify with a self-chosen and compulsory syllabus.

All obligatory course works must be approved before the student can take the exam.

Exam:

The exam is a group-based project assignment. The students will create a teaching plan related to health and life skills in school. The project assignment must contain a description of the planning and implementation as well as justification of the teaching plan. Further information about the exam will be given in the beginning of the semester.
