Course content

The project is based on a realistic case that is relevant for the study programme and priorities of the department. The content of the project depend on the priority of topic. The supervisor will have skills related to the topic choosen.

Learning methods and activities

Pedagogiske metoder:

Independent work or work in groups under supervision. The study may be a combination of practical and theoretical work. The project may be related to internal laboratorium or an external company or institution. Each phase in the thesis must be well documented and the project as a whole should include elements which are not covered in other courses at the college.   

Obligatoriske arbeidskrav:
During the project there will be mandatory assemblages where the students will present the progression of the project.
A project plan will be approved by the supervisor before the student start the practical part of the main project.

Further on evaluation

The assignment is graded, not only on the basis of the final product, but also in terms of the level of difficulty chosen, project presentation and circumstances that may have affected the project work. Re-sit examination: In the end of next semester.

Specific conditions

Exam registration requires that class registration is approved in the same semester. Compulsory activities from previous semester may be approved by the department.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Biomarine innovation (298BMI)
Biotechnology (427BT)

Required previous knowledge

Completed 80% of the subjects in the first and the second year of the study.Dispensation from this requirement can be possible after application to Departement of Biological Sciences Ålesund.
