Course description:
The objective of the first part of semester IIIB is to prepare the students practically and theoretically for working in a local hospital later in the semester. This 4-week period is devoted to revision and presentation of new material in the subjects: anesthesiology, diagnostic imaging, sports medicine, infectious medicine, geriatrics, emergency medicine, writing prescriptions, foresic medicine and forensic psychiatry.
During the second part of semester IIIB, the students are placed in a local hospital for 16 weeks. They will participate in the daily running of three different departments: 2 weeks in anesthesiology, 7 weeks in internal medicine and 7 weeks in general surgery. In addition, radiology is taught one hour weekly. This placement in a local hospital is an obligatory part of the medical education. After a short introduction to each department, the student will be a part of the doctor staff and in this way acquire knowledge of the practical work. The students should after a while be able to perform certain tasks under supervision.
A working day for the students begins with the department briefing session in the morning and lasts until the department's normal working time ends.
