About the course
Course content
The course uses thematic and practical approaches to the exploration of philosophy and ethics, and research on, as well as philosophy and ethics didactics research and theory. Ethical ways of thinking, ethics didactics, philosophical discourse, judgment and the development of critical thinking are included as compulsory topics. In the subject didactic part of the course, analytical ability and practical profiiency are trained through discussing ethical and philosophical questions.

- can analyse and critically relate to national and international research related to ethics and philosophy teaching, and can apply this knowledge in professional practice

The student
- can systematically plan, evaluate and revise teaching materials and teaching plans in KRLE

Learning methods and activities
The course is organised with regular weekly teaching. Excursions can take place outside regular teaching hours. The teaching methods alternate between lectures, work on assignments individually and in groups, dialogues, as well as oral and written student presentations.

The following activities must be completed in order to take the exam:
Participation in philosophical dialogues. Written reflections related to philosophical dialogues. Oral presentations. Paper related to leading a philosophical dialogue. Detailed requirements and delivery deadlines will be announced at the start of the semester.
The assessment of these works will be graded either passed or not passed.
Exam:
6-hour written school exam and oral exam with individual grade. Oral exam takes place in groups normally consisting of a minimum of two students and a maximum of four students. Division into groups takes place through a lottery. Oral exam is carried out by the group analysing/assessing distributed material within 30 minutes, e.g. a film clip (maximum two minutes), and discussing relevant questions/problems related to the distributed material. There is 15 minutes of preparation time before the oral, where the group is presented with the material that they will analyze in a separate room, before they come in for the oral.
Grading system, A-F.
The students can be assessed, required to take part in coursework and required to attend teaching related to interdisciplinary topics.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Primary and Lower Secondary Teacher Education for Years 1-7 (MGLU1-7) - some programmes
Recommended previous knowledge
Passed 60 credits in KRLE from cycle 1 and passed 15 credits in KRLE at master's level in KRLE, or equivalent.
