About

About the course

Course content

Derivation of the the theories of friction, wear and lubrication. The course will focus on the lubrication part of the subject. Both hydrodynamic and boundary lubrication will be descriebed. The lubrication properties of both fluids and gases will be described. Lubrication of relevant machin parts as gears, bearings and dynamic seals.

Description and characterization of real surfaces. Friction, wear and lubrication will be related to the properties of the surface material and topography.

Keywords: Stiffness and damping in bearings, surface properties related to lubrication, design of tribological components, failure mechanisms.
