Course content

The course offers a foundation in basic jazz training, through a musical and performing approach, where improvisation and rhythm are essential factors.

Learning outcome

Students will develop their expressive abilities and musical intuition through training and awareness of the basic musical elements of rhythm, melodies, harmonics, form, and sound.

The candidate:

  • has knowledge about musical intuition and understanding

Skills:

The candidate:

  • is able to learn music by listening
  • has musical intuition and understanding based on experience in listening and imitation.
  • can communicate in relevant musical contexts.

Learning methods and activities

- Group instruction - 3 lessons a week for 12 weeks in fall and 12 weeks in spring.

Compulsory assignments

  • Satisfactory participation in compulsory instruction
  • Approved exercises

A compulsory practical or written assignment or task is given in between the lectures. The task/assignment will be approved in Blackboard or in the next lecture.

Required previous knowledge

Requires admission to the Bachelor's programme in Music Performance Studies or the one-year programme in Church Music.
