About the course

Course content

The course includes choral and ensemble leadership, as well as participation in the department's motet choir. The course is organized as a joint workshop where everyone on organ / church music performs tasks within choir conducting, participation in choir, accompaniment on organ and piano, composing and arranging repertoire as well as organizational tasks. The motet choir constitutes the rehearsal ensemble. At least one major project is facilitated during the academic year where students get to study and lead choir/ensemble in worship/concert performance.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

The candidate:

  • has basic knowledge of voice use, shorttone formation and cork timbre
  • has basic knowledge of warm-up and rehearsal methodology for choirs
  • has basic knowledge of a broad church musical repertoire
  • has a basic understanding of style within various church musical traditions

Skills:

The candidate:

  • can express their musical intentions through the direction of choirs and ensembles
  • has basic technical conducting skills to lead choirs and ensembles in different church musical contexts
  • has experience in developing projects related to choir work, concerts and worship life
  • has experience working in teams

Learning methods and activities

Seminar-based lectures in groups. Course in singing auxiliary instrument. Participation in the motet choir of the Department of Music.

Instruction is obligatory and demands minimum 80% attendance.

Compulsory assignments

  • Satisfactory participation in compulsory instruction
  • Singing as supporting instrumen
  • Compulsory singing in the Department´s church choire

Further on evaluation

Final practical exam in choir conducting with a duration of up to 30 minutes.

Church Music (ÅKIRKMUS)
Music Performance Studies (BMUSP)

Required previous knowledge

Admission to the one-year programme in church music, or classical bachelor with specialization in church music.
