About the course

Course content

The course will give analytical comments to works and compositional techniques from Europe, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and East Asia that represents the time period from ca. 1950 till today. Emphasis will be placed on understanding for traditional connections, impact of colonization and personal aesthetics. Performance contexts and public discourse about the music will be illuminated. The score selection will be genre crossing, so that both concert music, chamber music, theatre music and film music will be treated.

Knowledge:
An examinee with a completed qualification in MUSV3104
- has in-depth knowledge about compositional practices in a global perspective
- has knowledge about historical and newer problems within compositional practices in a global perspective
- has knowledge of theories and research methods within compositional practices in a global perspective
- has knowledge that enables a placement of compositional practices in a global perspective into the larger frame of scientific theory and reflexion

Skills:
An examinee with a completed qualification in MUSV3104
- can express his/her deepened knowledge in a convincing way, both in writing and speech
- can individually find and assess relevant research based knowledge to illuminate a problem within compositional practices in a global perspective
- can based on his/her deepened knowledge discuss academic texts in a diversified way, enter a dialogue with the texts of others and carry out his/her own reasoning, both in writing and speech
- can utilize methods specific to compositional practices in a global perspective on an independent and critical basis
