Course content

This course is based on Norwegian 1 and emphasizes three main themes: grammar, language in the media community and second language learning.

Learning outcome

Knowledge

The candidate

  • has extensive knowledge of the language as a system and possibility
  • has knowledge of how grammatical awareness can contribute to the further development of students' oral and written skills
  • has knowledge of theories and methods of analysis to understand varied forms of expression in the media society
  • has knowledge of multilingual development, competence and practice
  • has knowledge of what characterizes everyday language and school language

Skills

The candidate can

  • plan, carry out and evaluate teaching in grammar for pupils at the lower secondary level and at the upper secondary level and substantiate academic choices
  • facilitate teaching that examines varied forms of expression in the media society in order to understand different linguistic practices
  • maintain, strengthen and draw on the multilingual students' overall language competence
  • facilitate teaching that develops students' linguistic awareness

General competence

The candidate

  • has experience with the use of digital media and can facilitate their use in Norwegian professional contexts
  • has developed theoretical, analytical and didactic knowledge of language and communication

Learning methods and activities

The digital learning platform is used actively between the sessions, for submission of written works and communication with fellow students. The course includes student presentations, the sharing of experiences, lectures, and workshops. Throughout the study, the students’ own writing and reflections between theory and practice experiences, is central.

The course has two obligatory gatherings.

Compulsory assignments:

Submission of two individual subject texts

Annotated bibliography of some syllabus texts

Nynorsk and Bokmål must be represented in the compulsory assignments.

Assessment: Oral exam.

The exam is organized as an individual academic presentation where syllabus literature and experiences from work in one's own classroom are to be seen in context.

All aids are allowed during the preparation time.

Specific conditions

Admission to a programme of study is required:
KOMPiS Norsk 2, 8.-13. trinn (KNO2-8-13)

Required previous knowledge

Norwegian 1 or equivalent.
