Attendance is compulsory for the first lecture, and the overall attendance requirement is 80 per cent.

Compulsory assignments

  • Up to 4 obligatory activities
  • 80% attendance (mandatory attendance in the first teaching session)

Further on evaluation

The exam is a combination of an oral and a written exam.

The written exam tests comprehension (e.g. dictation), grammar, vocabularies and text writing. The written exam will be in Norwegian Bokmål. The oral exam is 15 minutes. Dictionaries are not allowed.

Separate grades are given for the written and the oral exam. The written exam counts 2/3 while the oral exam counts 1/3 of the final grade. Both the written and the oral exam need to be passed in order to pass the exam. Students must retake both parts if they fail either part.

Approved examination requirements are valid for 4 semesters.

Specific conditions

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Norwegian for Foreigners (NFUT)

Required previous knowledge

Passed Norwegian level 1 or Placement test or Norskprøven with B1 in the written part and A2 in the other parts.

It is recommended that students interested in the course are prepared and able to allocate the needed time for individual study to keep up with the course pace. The readings and work for individual study will be substantially higher than that of the other Norwegian courses.

Student should also have decent possibilities to practice Norwegian with other speakers outside the classroom, as classroom training in this area will be limited.

It is assumed that students will keep up with course progression and able to actively participate in lectures and with group teachings in general.

The course is intended for students who need a more flexible schedule for their learning, and in addition has the capacity, and ability, to put in the effort to learn Norwegian without a lot of classroom teachings.

The course will culminate in a standard Norwegian level 2 exam. Passing the exam will enable the student to apply for Norwegian level 3.
