About the course

Course content

Counseling takes place all the time where people meet both in professional contexts and in everyday life. This course provides a theoretical introduction that provides a basis for understanding counselling as growth, learning and development processes, at individual, group, organizational and societal levels. The course is based on counselling throughout the life cycle, which may include counselling and guidance of pupils, students, leaders and organizations. Relevant topics may include multicultural counseling, work inclusion, career guidance, team development and local community work.

- have good knowledge of theories and methods in different counseling traditions in a life cycle perspective

- have good knowledge of counseling in the span between individual, group, system and community level

- demonstrate independence, take different perspectives and understand counseling processes based on different actors, contexts and life phases

- participate in collaboration with other relevant actors in counseling processes at different levels

- are able to identify and reflect on ethical issues related to counseling processes

Learning methods and activities

The course theme is conveyed through dialog-based teaching. The working methods will vary between lectures, group work, exercises, seminars and individual work. Emphasis is placed on students working with practice-oriented and self-chosen issues.
