Course content

Principles and philosophy behind building a knowledge model within a subject (ontology engineering); Principles and methods behind Case Based Reasoning (CBR); Method and modelling of specific knowledge (cases); Use of general and specific knowledge for solving problems, planning and for learning.

Learning outcome

KNOWLEDGE:
• About a selected topic within petroleum engineering
• General knowledge building (ontology engineering)
• Modeling techniques related to specific knowledge (case)
• Unwanted events and their symptoms
• Relationships between events, symptoms and general knowledge
• Commercial tools for building and evaluation of knowledge


SKILLS:
• Structuring and building of selected general knowledge
• Structuring and building of specific knowledge (cases)
• Analyze data and recognize symptoms and failures
• Reveal the root cause of unwanted events.

COMPETENCE:
• Evaluate failures in a process and be able to suggest improvements and counter measures on basis of general and specific knowledge

Learning methods and activities

Collocvium, discussions, small projects. Each student will build his/her own domain model, own cases (minimum 5 with different but related content). Matching between new and existing cases will be tested.
