Course content

Besides getting experience with psychological treatment of adults through working in in-house practice, the students will, the students will meet a variety of problems and different work tasks relevant to later professional practice as a psychologist in the therapeutic role. Guidance and tuition will include coverage of analyses, diagnostic assessments, establishing contact, alliances, design and execution of treatment plans, the development of collaborative relationships, conclusion of therapy and assessment of therapy. Record-keeping is also included in the training. Approval of in-house practice takes place in accordance with the separate guidelines for practice.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

  • The student has practical experience and knowledge about psychological treatment of adults.
  • The student has experience with diverse clinical problems and work tasks within regular clinical psychology work.
  • The student has knowledge about reviews, diagnostic evaluation, how to establish contact, alliances, shaping and implementation of treatment based on psychological theories and knowledge about effective methods of treatment.
  • The student has knowledge about establishing cooperative relationships, how to end a therapy and evaluate therapeutic practice.
  • The student is familiar with guidelines for journaling and documentation of clinical psychological work.

Skills:

  • The student knows how to review, plan and implement a treatment based on clinical theories and knowledge about effective methods of treatment.
  • The student knows how to give constructive feed-back to fellow students.
  • The student can deal with and use guidance according to clinical problems and personnel act in clinical relations and learning.

General competence:

  • The student is able to do self-reflections on own practice and act in clinical psychological work.
  • The student is capable of planning, implementing and evaluating psychological work according to existing guidelines for internal clinical practice and laws and regulations for clinical psychological work.

Learning methods and activities

Will include lectures, self-study in the form of exercises / group work, case presentations, seminars, and exercises with individual instruction. Student presentations may be applicable.Relevant curriculum is chosen for the various conditons, and includes both textbooks, articles and compendium. In addition to this, relevant supporting literature. Students will also be encouraged to be curious about literature, and share tips on literature with each other.This course is evaluated according to the Guidelines for the implementation and evaluation of clinical practice.

  • 80% attendance at clinical practice

Further on evaluation

The student is allowed to repeat this course one time if first time is evaluated Fail. Failed course must be fully repeated and so must all mandatory assignments. The course is evaluated according to "Guidelines for the implementation and evaluation of clinical practice".

Specific conditions

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Clinical Psychology Programme, 6 years (CPSY6)

Required previous knowledge

Passed exam in PSYPRO4201-4204 is required. The class will be divided into two from this semester. One group will take the two children clinic courses PSYPRO4601 and PSYPRO4602, the second group the two adult clinic courses, PSYPRO4603 and PSYPRO4604, and reverse the following semester. A student who has not passed either PSYPRO4602 or PSYPRO4603 cannot proceed until this has been passed.

Any articles / supporting literature will be, if required, given by the trainers. The syllabus for the course PSYPRO4603 - Practical Clinical Therapy Training - Adult, must also be regarded as supporting literature.
