About the course

Course content

The course is for Master's students who are given the right to replace Experts in team (EiT) with another relevant Master's course of the same magnitude.

The course is an independent study with a prescribed curriculum of approx. 750 pages.

Learning outcome

According to the course curriculum, a candidate who passes this course is expected to have the following learning outcome (defined as knowledge, skills and general competence)

Knowledge

The candidate has attained

  • knowledge of literary searches in various internet-based search engines relevant for religious studies
  • knowledge of the criteria for assessment of academic standard in religious studies literature
  • knowledge of the difference between journalism, popular science and academics
  • knowledge of literary sources for relevant material on religion
  • knowledge of the formulation of literary accounts in religious studies

Skills

The candidate has acquired skills to

  • assess and choose literature on relevant research questions in religious studies
  • apply the criteria for assessment of academic standard on religious studies literature
  • assess, and make us of, newspaper articles, popular science and academic science
  • find, collect and analyse literary source materials on religion
  • present an individual, academic account in religious studies, based on student selected curriculum

General competence

The candidate has

  • competence in independent academic reading
  • experience in planning and executing a written essay with a defined length through successive stages

Learning methods and activities

Self study. The reading list must be approved by the supervisor before it is submitted to the Department.

  • Approved reading list/curriculum

Further on evaluation

Assessment by written assignment (3000-4000 words) related to the reading list. The student must ensure that the reading list for the course does not overlap with reading lists in previous courses.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Religious Studies (MRVI)

Required previous knowledge

Admission to the Master's programme in Religious Studies.

The student selects a reading list of 750 pages (in consultation with the supervisor).
