It focuses on the design of credible research strategies and the implementation of modern causal inference methods, including experiments, difference-in-differences, instrumental variables, regression discontinuity, and matching.
Learning outcome
Knowledge:
Upon completion of the course, students will
- understand key concepts and methods in causal inference and empirical research design
- be aware of the strengths and limitations of different identification strategies
- understand how research design influences the interpretation and credibility of empirical results
Skills:
Upon completion of the course, students will
- be able to conduct empirical analyses in R using modern causal inference methods
- be able to design credible empirical studies and critically evaluate identification strategies
- be able to reproduce and interpret results from applied economic research
General competence:
Upon completion of the course, students will
- be able to read, understand, and critically assess research articles using causal inference methods
