About the course

Course content

How to undertake an anthropological fieldwork? Your fieldwork will be based on the project description that was developed in SANT 3022. Fieldwork should be of a minimum 5 months duration. While you are free to choose both thematic and field site according to your own particular interests and curiosities, you are, also much welcome to place your own research locus and focus closer to the ongoing research themes and projects at the department. By applying practical and concrete methodologies, such as participant observation, narratives and interviews, you will be challenged to collect ethnographic data on an independent basis that will form the bedrock of your master thesis.

Learning outcome

Upon completing this course you are able to make use of anthropological methods and to produce knowledge about different ways of life, including life worlds. You have an advanced ability to immerse yourself in other people’s perspectives, and to see your own perspective from the outside. You can change perspective and ask new questions in light of new knowledge. You have a very good command of participant observation, interview techniques, use of references, text analysis and other relevant methods. You can also make continuous scientific and ethical assessments throughout the entire fieldwork process.
