About the course

Course content

  • Academic training: - Using, evaluating and citing sources - Using word processors, search engines and library services.
  • Writing: - Writing different types of texts, including discussion texts and summaries - Topic sentences and paragraph structure - Basic Norwegian grammar and spelling.
  • English - Writing summaries - Academic style, sentence structure and vocabulary - Basic English grammar and spelling.
  • Communication - Basic communication theory - Objectives - Technical language - Meetings and presentations - Preparation and implementation of oral presentations - Planning, organisation and implementation of meetings - Planning and implementation of project tasks - Collaboration in groups.

Students need to bring their own PC and install relevant software. Some tasks may require the use of a smartphone with a camera.

  • Up to 6 obligatory assignments

Further on evaluation

There are six obligatory assignments in the course. The exam portfolio will include a minimum of four assignments, of which one is an oral assignment (podcast, recording of presentation, or other). The portfolio is given an overall assessment, with the grade pass or fail.

Portfolios that receive a fail grade: The course coordinator may allow submission of a new portfolio within a given deadline.

Required previous knowledge

A passing grade in Vg 1 and Vg 2 from secondary vocational programmes or the equivalent.
