Course content

  • Strategy processes - the process of strategic leadership.
  • Mission, vision, business concept, values, and goals.
  • Strategic analysis
  • Reputation, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and relations to shareholders.
  • Innovation and Sustainable Business Models.
  • Strategic evaluation and decisions.
  • Implementation and control, including management of multidimensional goals- and results.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

  • of the historical development in the field
  • of the most important perspectives, theories, and analyses in the field
  • of strategy processes with leadership as an important aspect
  • of the relationship between innovation and strategic decisions
  • of how strategies contribute to sustainable value creation
  • of the state of the art in the field of strategy

Skills:

  • to be able to carry out internal and external analysis and actively participate in strategy development.
  • to be able to make good, sustainable decisions through consideration of different strategic alternatives.
  • to be able to find, evaluate, and use relevant literature sources.

  • to understand strategy as a management tool
  • to understand, communicate, and discuss strategic terms, challenges, choices, and consequences.
  • to develop an analytical and reflective approach to strategic leadership

Learning methods and activities

Video lectures, group- or individual-based exercises, supervision, and compulsory work. The communication between the lecturer, teaching assistant and students is organized on a digital platform where learning resources will be available.

The course is offered in Norwegian.

There will be further information on compulsory work at the start of the semester. Compulsory work has to be approved before the student can meet for examination.

Further on evaluation

Home exam, 6 hours. Letter grades A-F.

There is no re-take exam for home exams. This is in accordance with the Regulations on studies at NTNU.

Approved assignment is valid for the following academic year.
