Course content

Strategy in a historical context Strategy processes - the process of strategic leadership. Mission, vision, business concept,values and goals. Strategic analysis  Reputation and relations to shareholders. Innovation and Sustainable Business Models. Strategic evaluation and decisions. Implementation and control.

Learning outcome

Knowledge: - of the historical development in the field - of the most important perspectives, theories and analysis in the field - of strategy processes with leadership as and important aspect - of the relation between innovation and strategic decisions - of how strategies contribute to sustainable value creation - of the state of the art in the field of strategy Skills: - to be able to carry out internal and external analysis and actively participate in strategy development. - to be able to make good, sustainable decisions through consideration of different strategic alternatives. - to be able to find, evaluate and use relevant literature sources. General competence: - to understand strategy as a management tool - to understand, communicate and discuss strategic terms, challenges, choices and consequences. - to develop an analytical and reflective approach to strategic leadership

Learning methods and activities

Use of digital learning platform, group- or individual exercises, supervision and compulsory work. The course is included in a part-time internet based study program. Therefore, all communication between teacher and students are organized on a digital platform where also presentations from lecturers will be available. The course may be offered in Norwegian and/or English.  The compulsory work have to be approved before the student can meet for examination.

Re-sit exam in August. Approved compulsory work may be valid for re-sit examination according to departement guidelines.

Specific conditions

Compulsory activities from previous semester may be approved by the department.
