Course content

The course builds on the introductory course in organization and management, SMF1193 Organizations and Management, where the student learned relevant terms and theories in the field. This course goes more in-depth on some of these topics, by giving the student an understanding of how individual- and social-psychological processes have an impact on learning, performance, and cooperation at the workplace, and how leadership can facilitate and support these processes for a positive impact on the orginizational value creation.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

  • Acquire basic knowledge of theories and processes within organisational psychology and the management subject
  • Acquire knowledge of the subject's history and place in society

Skills:

  • Develop independent and critical thinking related to management and organisational psychological topics.
  • Be able to apply professional knowledge to theoretical and practical issues within management and organisational psychological topics.

General competence:

  • Have insight into relevant professional and ethical issues when it comes to organising and leading employees.
  • Develop an awareness of the complexity of organisational life.
  • Think critically about choices that are made in organisational contexts.
  • Be able to convey central subject matter such as theories, problems and solutions both in writing and orally

Learning methods and activities

The course focus on student active learning and is organized through 5 seminars.

A "flipped classroom" model will give the students the opportunity to study the topic in their own speed before meeting at the seminars, where the literature will be discussed with fellow students and lecturer.

Students will read specified parts of the syllabus and learning resources on Blackboard before we meet for seminars during the semester.

The curriculum as well as learning resources and collaboration in and between the seminars are important in the course.

The students form groups for cooperation throughout the semester

In addition, students will work in groups with the compulsory group assignment and then evaluate fellow students' group assignments in accordance with given guidelines.

Further on evaluation

Compulsory activities described above and specified at the beginning of the semester must be passed to meet for exam.

The course has a digital home exam as a written assignment. The students can decide whether they want to write and submit the assignment (that will be graded) individually or as a group of 2-3 students.

Exam registration requires that semester registration is approved in the same semester.

No re-sit of exam until the next ordinary exam in the course.
