About the course

Course content

Subject is related to organization and management. The student will get an introduction to how business and information and communication technology (ICT) is aligned, e.g. how ERP (Enterprice Resource Planning systems are used. This includes an understanding of how ICT play a vital role in operation processes, procurement, sales and marketing, supply chain management and supporting processes. ICT solutions to make data and information accessible for decision makers. The relation between business strategy and ICT strategy. Planning implementation of ICT solutions, including areas such as cyber security, sharing of data, and privacy. In addition, the subject discuss new business models based on platforms, and challenges with social medias.

Knowledge

The student will get

  • an understanding of how organizations structure and forms
  • a general knowledge of an organizations performance measurement and management systems
  • a general knowledge of ICT's role within business and organizations
  • a general knowledge of different ICT solutions used in organizations, including ERP-systems
  • an understanding of new technologies (including industry 4.0) and ICT solutions advantages and possible usage
  • a general knowledge of relevant methods to analyze the organizations' ICT needs.
  • an understanding of business strategy and ICT strategy

Skills

The student will

  • be able to, both individually and in cooperation with others, discuss and explain how ICT is needed and used within organizations
  • be able to, both individually and in cooperation with others, discuss and explain the advantages and challenges related to the use of ICT in and between organizations, including internal processes and the supply chain
  • be able to plan the process for gathering and analyzing ICT needs
  • be able to discuss approaches for ICT procurement and implementations, both related to innovative new technologies and the interaction to existing ICT environment

General knowledge

The student

  • will have a general knowledge of how ICT is a part of business management
  • is deliberate of how ICT develops and the economic consequences of ICT usage
  • is able to communicate the subject matter both orally and in writing
  • is able to identify, plan and conduct assignments individually and in cooperation with others

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, flipped classroom, cases, peer instruction, group assignments, project work.

Student participation is expected. Some lectures/group assignments will be mandatory.

Mandatory assignment:

Termpaper (2 - 4 students), approved/non-approved, with four deliverables

  1. Project design
  2. Project presentation
  3. Peer review
  4. Term paper

Exam, 3 hours (individual) graded A-F. Course curriculum is allowed to bring to exam.

A re-sit exam in August is offered for those who did not pass exam.

Obligatory assignment: project description (hand in) in the beginning of the semester.
