Course content

The course presents and discusses various methods of qualitative data collection principles and how the different principles can produce different types of qualitative data.
Emphasis is on practical exercises with various methods of data collection.



Learning outcome

Knowledge – the student shall:
- achieve insight into the principles of qualitative research methods
- achieve a knowledge of and be familiar with the challenges tied to the use of different qualitative research methods

Skills - the student shall demonstrate the ability to:
- use different qualitative methods for data generation and analysis

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and assignments equivalent to 4 hours per week.

  • Compulsory exercises and participation in lectures

Specific conditions

Exam registration requires that class registration is approved in the same semester. Compulsory activities from previous semester may be approved by the department.

Required previous knowledge

SOS1002 or IDRSA1016/IDRSA1017 or the equivalent. The requirement must be fulfilled to be admitted to the course.
