About the course

Course content

The course provides a continuation of Spanish grammar with a focus on theoretical language competence. The students will learn terminology to describe the Spanish language system. The course adopts a contrastive perspective and focuses on differences and similarities between Spanish and Norwegian.

Learning outcome

KNOWLEDGE

The candidate:

  • has knowledge of the different word classes and sentence types
  • has knowledge of terminology within morphology and syntax
  • can analyse subordinate sentences
  • has knowledge about usage of Spanish verbs in indicative, subjunctive and imperative

SKILLS

The candidate:

  • can apply Spanish sentence structures in his/her language production
  • can use the Spanish verbal system, including subjunctive and imperative
  • has knowledge about agreement
  • can explain the similarities and differences between Spanish and Norwegian
  • can use relevant dictionaries, encyclopaedias and grammar books

GENERAL COMPETENCE

The candidate:

  • can plan and conduct linguistic academic tasks and projects
  • can reflect on personal academic practice and adjust this under guidance
  • has command of relevant academic tools

Learning methods and activities

The course is a combination of lectures and seminars with practical assignments. The students are expected to participate in grammar exercises in pairs and in groups. A good progression depends on the students' degree of participation in lectures and group sessions. The course is taught in Spanish.

A minimum of 75% attendance to lectures and seminars is obligatory. Absence above 25% requires an application at the start of the semester.

Students will complete three mandatory assignments during the semester, of which at least one is an oral presentation.

Approved obligatory assignments are valid for 2 semesters (the semester in which the approval is given, plus the following semester). All obligatory assignments must be completed in the same semester.

The exam must be answered in Spanish. Information about which dictionaries or other aids students are allowed to consult during the exam will be made available at the beginning of the semester.
