Course content

Professional nursing (3,0 ECTS): - The nurse's function and responsibility in health promotion and disease prevention - Public health work on an individual, group and population level - Environment and occupational health - Phases of life in a health perspective - The normal pregnancy, birth and postnatal period

The professional and scientific basis of nursing (0,5 ECTC) - Project work

Skills training, preparation for practice (2,5 ECTC): - Simulation and casework - Skills training- CVC, vene portae, sucction of airways

Pedagogics/Learning psychology (2,5 ECTC): - Nurse's educational function - Legal bounds for the health personnel educational work - User participation and empowerment - Different approaches and models for learning, counselling, and health promotion

Social anthropology and sociology (1,5 ECTC) - Professional identity and integrity, understanding the nurse's role in interprofessional cooperation - Body, health, illness and public health in a multicultural perspective - Migration, globalisation and global health challenges

Learning outcome

Knowledge: The candidate - has broad knowledge of health promotion and disease prevention in relation to individuals, health, environment and nursing - has knowledge of the influence of positive health factors on individuals and their environment - has knowledge of national and global policies in public health work - has knowledge of health education/learning to different target groups - has knowledge of and can make use of available knowledge resources - has knowledge about professional identity and integrity, and the nurse role in interprofessional cooperation - has knowledge about migration, globalisation and global health challenges - has knowledge about body, health, sickness and public health in a multicultural perspective - has knowledge of the implementation of research and professional development project -

Skills: The candidate - applies knowledge of risk factors, disease and human reactions towards illness in health promotion - is able to reflect upon patient/users and next of kin's legal rights to cooperation and information in medical help - is able to perform counselling to patient/user and students - is able to use research results in written papers - is able to interact interprofessionally with a basis in a nursing professional identity - applies multicultural knowledge in clinical situations, in cooperation and in preventive health care

General Competence: The candidate - is able to plan, accomplish and evaluate learning/education to particular target groups - is able to plan, accomplish and present projects in health promotion and disease prevention - has insight in relevant professional code of ethics in public health work - is able to work evidence based and contribute to quality development in nursing and the health services - has insight into the minority, gender and age perspectives in relation to health - demonstrates an understanding of the challenges related to migration, globalization and global health - identifies with the nurse's independent and professional occupational role

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, self study, teamwork, project work in groups, presentations, skills training, simulation                Mandantory activities: - skills training, preparation for practice - Approved participation in teamwork with presentation in pedagogics - Approved participation in teamwork with presentation and submission of written assignement in social anthropology The mandatory activities are valid until the year after completion of the program. If the course code changes, special rules apply.

- Project work in groups - When the project period starts, the topics will be introduced by course coordinator - Group size: 4-6 students - Group tutoring - Group presentation of poster to students and teaching staff - If a "fail" degree is awarded, or in case of approved absence, the students can improve the same paper for the resit exam. One group tutoring session is available - If the group waits until the next ordinary exam before resubmission, a new paper on a new topic must be written, with the same offer of tutoring as for the ordinary exam
