About the course

Course content

This course covers introductory issues in environmental economics and the economics of sustainability. A particular focus is on the role of public policy in addressing environmental problem. As part of this, the course takes an international viewpoint on major issues in environmental policy and sustainability. This includes the economics of international agreement, mitigation, pricing and market-based solutions, and adaptation. An emphasis is on the use of analytical methods to address these topics.

  • about national and global challenges related to climate change, environment and sustainability
  • about how economic policy can be designed to stimulate sustainable interaction between economic activity, climate change and the environment

  • analyze static and dynamic environmental-economics problems
  • apply economic models to understand and analyze various national and international challenges related to climate change and the environment
  • analyze possible effects of various economic policies on the climate, environment and sustainability, both nationally and globally
  • have a good understanding of the national international debate on economics, climate and sustainability

General competence

You should be able to

  • read and understand reports and research articles dealing with issues discussed in the course

Learning methods and activities

2 hours of lectures every week and 2 hours of practical assignments every other week. The course has compulsory activity. Specific requirements will be announced at the beginning of the term.
